Apprenticeship FAQs

Interested in an Apprenticeship in Early Years? Take a look at our FAQs:

What experiences will I have on the apprenticeship?

You will be a member of the nursery team undertaking the full range of early years practitioners’ duties.

What happens when I have finished the apprenticeship?

We would expect you to continue working at Kids Planet progressing onto higher level qualifications.

How will I learn on the course?

The apprenticeship is a work-based qualification, which means that most of the training and assessment for the apprenticeship will be completed at the nursery supported by on line and face to face delivery at one of our training venues. You will need to build an apprenticeship portfolio of evidence. Our Academy trainer will observe you in the workplace and guide you on which pieces of work-based evidence are suitable for your portfolio.

Towards the end of your apprenticeship you will have a meeting with your trainer and manager to determine whether you are ready for you End Point Assessment (EPA). The EPA is completed to assess the knowledge, skills and behaviours that you have learnt throughout the apprenticeship. You will practice parts of the EPA assessment throughout the apprenticeship and you will only take the final assessment when you feel ready.

Who can do an apprenticeship?

Anyone in England aged 16 years old and above, whether employed, unemployed or leaving school. There is no upper age limit.

When does the Apprenticeship start?

We have a roll on roll off approach there is no set start dates we start apprentices every week.

How long will the apprenticeship last?

Level 2 will take approx. 15 months and level 3, approx. 18 months.

What qualifications do I need?

No qualifications necessary just the right attitude and willingness to learn.

What will I be paid?

If you are under 19 you must be paid at least the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage of £5.28 an hour (from April 2023), however this may vary.

If you are 19 after completing the first year of your apprenticeship, you must be paid at least the full National Minimum Wage.

All Kids Planet apprentices are employed and have a contract of employment. You are counted as a regular employee and get all benefits such as holiday and sick leave.
