New level 5 Apprentice Standard for Early Years Lead Practitioner now available

Our Head of Training and Development, Gill Mason is pleased to announce that the new level 5 Apprentice Standard for Early Years Lead Practitioner is now available through Kids Planet Training Academy.

As part of the trailblazer group Kids Planet have played an important role in the development of this new apprenticeship standard. It offers an exciting opportunity for the Early Years workforce to progress beyond level 3 and we welcome applications from employers and individuals across the sector.

Early Years Lead Practitioner – Level 5 Apprenticeship

Who is it for:

The Early Years Lead Practitioner apprenticeship is ideal for those practitioners who aspire to be a leader within
a nursery setting. They will already hold extra responsibility within the setting and will be looking to develop this
further. As an Early Years Lead Practitioner, you will be a positive role model for the team.
Typical job titles could include room leader, deputy manager, assistant manager, senior practitioner, early years
coordinator, play leader, key worker, and nursery officer. The Early Years Lead Practitioner will have responsibility
for leading other practitioners, as well as an aspect or environment such as Sendco , Communication and Language, Planning and Assessment, Outdoor learning or Physical Activity and Nutrition. (PANCO).

Usually, reporting to the Nursery Manager they will be responsible for the promotion of health and well-being of
all children, participating in and leading daily routines, whilst ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and
strategies at national, local and setting based level. They will be an active and effective key worker, advocating
on behalf of the children as well as disseminating best practice and demonstrating leadership practice.
In their day-to-day work, the Early Years Lead Practitioner will interact with children, families, practitioners and
other professionals or appropriate agencies. They will also have responsibility for supporting the quality of
learning and development, leading on operational aspects of the provision.


What will apprentices learn?

Undertaking this apprenticeship will develop the practitioner’s ability to reflect and build on practice. Topics
include: Leadership and management, Child development and theory, Pedagogy, Health and wellbeing,
Health and safety, Equality, diversity, inclusion and SENt, Safeguarding, Partnership working, Curriculum. The
apprenticeship standard has been developed to cover the Department for Education criteria for Level 3 Early
Years qualifications (Early Years Educator).

The Academy will support apprentices. We have highly skilled and knowledgeable staff with significant
experience of working in the industry who will be able to share their experiences and support you. We deliver
the programme throughout the year providing you with the flexibility to start the apprenticeship when it meets
your needs. All learning is either on a 1-2-1 basis or small group face to face or online zoom sessions including:
Remote support, Independent learning, Action research, Professional enquiry, Work related case studies,
Ongoing mentoring, coaching, advice and guidance, Specialist English/maths support (if needed)
Impartial Information, Advice & Guidance, Criteria for Level 3 Early Years qualifications for Early Years Educator.
